SMALA vision is to raise holistic and versatile Maasai ladies in our community.
As SMALA, our mission is to ignite the fire of education in the lives of Maasai girls, change their mindset, and teach them the importance of education.
Our goal is to make a lasting impact in Maasai land by addressing critical social challenges and promoting holistic development. We have set ambitious goals to bring about positive change and uplift the lives of individuals and communities.
Strong Maasai Ladies Association CBO (SMALA) was established in 2015 in Kajiado County, we are a community-based organization dedicated to supporting and empowering girls through mentorship and empowerment programs. Nestled in a tropical semi-arid grassland, our organization operates in an area where girls face numerous challenges in accessing education. One of the significant obstacles we address is teenage pregnancy, which has unfortunately led to the early dropout of Maasai girls as young as 12 years old. This issue deeply affects both the girls and their parents in our community. At SMALA, we have implemented effective strategies to combat this problem and uplift the lives of these young girls. We believe in creating a brighter future by ensuring every girl has equal opportunities to thrive and succeed.

"SMALA has not only helped me by providing sanitary towels, but it has also installed confidence and boosted my self-esteem in school. I no longer feel insecure when I experience my menstrual period because I have access to a variety of sanitary towels. SMALA has helped us tremendously by providing these sanitary towels, allowing us to attend school regularly without having to stay at home during our menstrual days. Thank you so much, SMALA."
I am Selly. I am 16 years old. I want to thank SMALA for the good work they are doing through their motivational programs that they offer us as girls from Lodokilani. Through SMALA empowerment programs, I have come to know my purpose as a young girl. SMALA has enabled me to discover my hidden potential. I aim to achieve my goals and join SMALA in helping other girls like me.
"I was being forced by my parents to undergo Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), and I cried because I knew things would never be good. I was aware of the dangers awaiting me if I accepted to undergo the circumcision. Last night, I felt compelled to take action to rescue myself. Luckily, I had SMALA contact number, so I borrowed a phone around 8 pm and called the Director of SMALA. I narrated my story to her, and I am incredibly grateful to her for her swift response. She immediately informed her village team, who courageously came to rescue me even at night. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude because you saved my life."
